Since 1901, Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) has been at the heart of planting and protecting Israel’s forests—helping turn barren land into green landscapes, and landscapes into a homeland. Through tree planting, forest rehabilitation, and environmental stewardship, KKL-JNF has shaped Israel’s environment while strengthening the bond between the Jewish people and the Land of Israel.
Restoring the Land, Protecting the Future
In a country with a fragile climate and unique ecosystems, every tree matters. Trees help combat desertification, protect biodiversity, and provide vital habitats for local wildlife. They also play a critical role in recovering from the scars of conflict and war that damage and threaten our forests and nature sites. KKL-JNF is on the front lines of emergency forest rehabilitation, healing thousands of dunams of land scorched by missiles and war-related fires. By restoring soil and replanting what was lost, we are ensuring that the land remains resilient in the face of ongoing security and environmental threats.

Who are we?
We are Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael–Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) and since 1901, we have been developing the land of Israel and strengthening the bond between the Jewish people and its homeland. Today, KKL-JNF continues to meet Israel’s evolving needs, working with our friends worldwide to improve the country through forestry, environmental protection, combating desertification and climate change, community development, water management, ecotourism, agricultural R&D, education, and more.

How do trees make a difference? What is their impact?
Trees support ecosystems and human well-being. They stabilize soil, reduce erosion and flooding, absorb carbon dioxide, improve air quality, and regulate temperatures. Forests also provide green spaces for recreation, eco-education, and quality of life for people, communities, and wildlife.
Why is planting trees in Israel so important?
Israel faces unique environmental challenges. Large desert areas, a growing population, limited resources, and climate change make tree planting critical. Trees help prevent desertification, protect soil and water, and preserve open spaces. Forests also cool environments, reduce pollution, support biodiversity, and provide green spaces for recreation, education, and community well-being—today and for future generations.
Can I dedicate trees in honor or memory of someone?
Yes. Tree planting is a meaningful way to honor loved ones or commemorate life events. After selecting the number of trees, choose “Create a personalized certificate” to pick a design, write a message, and send it as a gift. If you choose not to dedicate your donation, you will still receive a certificate as a thank-you from us.
Where are the trees planted, and can I choose a location?
- Tree locations are chosen by KKL-JNF’s Forestry Division. Our experts plan forests based on long-term strategies, national needs, and local conditions. With decades of knowledge of Israel’s land and climate, we ensure every tree is planted where it can thrive and contribute most effectively to the land.
What types of trees are planted and where do they come from?
We plant a variety of native and climate-appropriate species, such as pine, oak, eucalyptus, and broadleaf trees, to support forest health. Every sapling is grown in one of KKL-JNF’s three nurseries: Golani (Galilee), Gilat (Negev), and Eshtaol (Jerusalem Hills), cultivated to match the soil and climate of each region.
How does KKL-JNF rehabilitate a forest after a wildfire?
Rehabilitating forests after wildfires is a multi-stage environmental process designed to restore ecosystems and public access:
- We assess the burned area and remove hazards and damaged material.
- Where natural regeneration is strong, we allow nature to lead and monitor progress.
- Where needed, we supplement recovery with strategic planting of appropriate trees and vegetation.
- We stabilize soil, install firebreaks, protect biodiversity, and repair trails, roads, and visitor infrastructure.
- All decisions are guided by long-term ecological goals and forest management plans to strengthen resilience and support sustainable regrowth.
How does giving to KKL-JNF make a difference beyond money?

Is my tree planting donation tax-deductible?
Yes, but only in Israel. All donations are recognized for Israeli tax purposes under Section 46 of the Tax Ordinance.
